Visual Culture and Interruption in Global Cities

This AHRC-NWO research network, which Christoph Lindner of the University of Amsterdam is leading together with Shirley Jordan at Queen Mary, University of London, brings together an international team of interdisciplinary scholars to address the relationship between globalization and cities. Our focus is on the ways in which visual culture (ranging from photography, film and mixed media works to architecture and design) strategically intervenes in contemporary urban spaces and communities to interrupt processes and conditions of globalization. In addition to working on publication projects, we are also organizing public workshops in New York (Spring 2013) and in London (Spring 2014).

Network partners include:

  • Hugh Campbell (University College Dublin)
  • Tim Cresswell (Royal Holloway, University of London)
  • Stephanie Hemelryk Donald (University of New South Wales)
  • Jeroen de Kloet (University of Amsterdam)
