Global Cities and Theories of Interruption

New York University, May 9-10. Bringing together perspectives from across the humanities and social sciences, this international workshop will explore how recent practices of visual cultureĀ interrupt and dislodge the narratives of mobility, speed, and growth which have overwhelmingly determined our understanding of global cities to date. Organised by Christoph Lindner and Shirley Jordan. In this workshop, I present a paper on visual artist Xing Danwen and filmmaker Ou Ning, tracing how their work intervenes and interrupts in the utopian aspiration of Beijing to be or becomeĀ a global city.

This workshop is part of the visual culture and interruption network.
